Happy Enlightenment Day

Enlightenment day, also know as Bodhi Day, is the day Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, achieved enlightenment. After spending many years practicing strict disciplines he resorted to meditating under a tree and became enlightened.

According to the Chinese calendar Buddha achieved enlightenment on the 8th day of the 12th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. In Japan it's celebrated on the 8th of December.
